COVID-19

Students hoping to return to university in May are being encouraged to collect some free home testing kits ahead of the expected return to face-to-face teaching.

It is anticipated that in-person teaching and learning will resume after 17 May as part of the Government’s roadmap.

However, students are being encouraged to take a lateral flow test before returning to university in an effort to prevent the virus being spread between areas or being passed between students at the start of term.

Lateral flow tests are available for free to anyone over the age of 16. The tests, which can provide a result within about half an hour, can detect the virus in people who are not experiencing the symptoms.

Around 1 in 3 people who have the virus do not get the symptoms and may not realise that they have it.

The home test kits are available to collect for free from sites across the area. Grimsby Town Hall, the Knoll in Cleethorpes, and the Civic Centre in Immingham, as well as some pharmacies in North East Lincolnshire, offer the service during select times.
