North East Lincolnshire Council and its regeneration partner, ENGIE, is proposing to make the current temporary 30mph speed limit on Humberston Avenue permanent.

The decision to proceed with the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) has been approved today (Monday 14 June) by Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport.

A temporary TRO was introduced in 2017 to create a safer environment while a number of housing developments were built and highway improvements carried out. Following a recent review, highway officials have been made aware of increased vehicle and pedestrian usage on Humberston Avenue and have recommended the 30mph speed limit be made permanent.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “The developments and associated highway works along Humberston Avenue have provided improvements to the route with new footpath, crossing points and bus stop improvements – all key for developing our sustainable travel infrastructure and supporting those choosing cleaner and greener methods of transport.

“Our transport team are actively working with schools and the housing developers to ensure travel plans are in place to actively encourage sustainable travel, but the permanent reduction in the speed limit is crucial for the safety of all road users.”

The Traffic Regulation Order will be advertised in the coming weeks and will be able to be viewed at www.nelincs.gov.uk/traffic-regulation-orders.
