Mayor in the Air! 15,000ft skydive raises money for St Andrew’s Hospice

The Mayor of North East Lincolnshire has jumped 15,000 feet from a plane, all for the good cause of raising money for St Andrew’s Hospice.

Councillor David Hasthorpe took to the skies on Saturday 21 August.

So far, £1550 has been raised, but there is still time to donate.

Upon completing the skydive, Cllr Hasthorpe said: “It’s a remarkably exhilarating feeling jumping out of an aircraft! Freefalling 6,000ft and then gently drifting the other 9000 with a sense of serenity and chatting to your co-jumper is just surreal.

“It was amazing to see the dock tower and the villages from that height.

“I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all those who have supported me including those that have sponsored my jump and helped me to raise money for St Andrew’s Hospice.

“So far the total raised for St Andrew’s Hospice is £1550 – a great amount of money for a truly wonderful cause.”

Andy’s, which is one of three chosen charities for Cllr Hasthorpe’s Mayoral year, has been helping young members of the local community with life-limiting conditions for more than 20 years. 

Throughout this time, thousands of families have come to know Andy’s as a safe place where they can relax, feel special, enjoy their surroundings, and have access to the care that they need.

Emily Aitken, fundraising and events lead at St. Andrew’s Hospice, said: “We are so grateful to Councillor Hasthorpe for taking on such an incredible challenge to raise funds and awareness of Andy’s children’s hospice services – the staff at Andy’s couldn’t believe it when we told them about his sky dive.

“Not only has Councillor Hasthorpe shown us an incredible support, he was smiling the whole day and kept us entertained whilst the weather was clearing up enough to jump.”
