This year, we are hosting two Christmas markets in our town centres of Grimsby and Cleethorpes, just in time for you to fill up on Christmas goodies and stocking fillers!

The Great Grimsby Christmas Market will be held over two days on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 November in Riverhead Square and alongside some unique traders, there’ll be fun and entertainment and special appearances.

Just the place to get into the festive spirit, pick out a few Christmas presents with a browse around the market stalls including gifts, bath products, vegan and eco products, jewellery, hot food and other goodies. And even better, brass bands, singers and street entertainment will be there to enjoy as you shop.

There will also be some guest appearances on both days, just perfect for some family fun and selfie opportunities.

It’s a great opportunity to see the Christmas Tree supplied by local family-run business Strawson Woodland in East Ravendale and once again been funded by NewLincs Development Ltd which operates the Energy from Waste plant in Stallingborough. The tree will be situated in St James’ Square from Monday 22 November, with its lights being switched on from 4pm on Thursday 25 November when late night shopping begins.

Sharon Hunt, Operations Director at Newlincs, said: “We are very happy to donate the Christmas tree for another year. I hope that it will spread some festive cheer to those enjoying a spot of shopping or passing through Grimsby town centre.”

You could also see the amazing installation ‘Museum of the Moon’ by Luke Jerram, installation brought by The Culture House at Grimsby Minster (free entry, but booking required). Check out their programme as there are lots of additional events to enjoy.

To support this weekend, both Cartergate car park and Grimsby Town Hall car parks will be free to use.

Meanwhile, over in Cleethorpes, the Holly Jolly Cleethorpes Christmas Market takes place on Saturday 4 December in the Market Place, Cleethorpes. From local artists and artisan makers, jewellery and vintage, local hot food and drink, there’ll be some great Christmas gift ideas.

Browse the stalls, check out Father Christmas for the children to meet, enjoy some mulled wine and ease yourself into the festive season. Guest appearances will take place throughout the day (more details to follow) along with a range of entertainment for all the family.

Why not take the opportunity to visit the wide range of retailers in Cleethorpes town centre during the event as they will be very pleased to see you.

The Holly Jolly Christmas Market falls on Small Business Saturday so free parking will be available at the many council car parks in the town.

Abbeygate Shopping Centre is showing off all the festive treats they have to offer with a special two-day event on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 November. With something for everyone, you’ll be able to shop until you drop and then head to one of their delicious eateries for a refuel and some festive tipples. All kinds of exciting events and treats are planned for the weekend.

Late night shopping starts on Thursday 25 November at Freshney Place Shopping Centre. Running every weekend from Saturday 27 November until Christmas, take the children to their Magical Elf Station to meet Father Christmas and his elves as they prepare for the big day.

Cllr Callum Procter, Cabinet member for economic growth, said: “Christmas is a really special time where families and communities pull together. By shopping with local providers, you’re really helping to support the local community and our small and large businesses who have kept going through the last 18 months.”

Find out the latest information about local markets and activities going on throughout the Christmas season on www.DiscoverNorthEastLincolnshire.co.uk/christmas or search on the Council’s website for Community Spotlight, where you can find out about local groups and activities available where you live.

The Christmas markets have been funded through the Government’s Welcome Back Fund, part of the response to the ERDF funded COVID recovery scheme across the UK.
