It’s Christmas at the Tips!

An enchanted winter wonderland awaits visitors to Grimsby and Immingham Community Recycling Centres this Christmas.

Site staff have gone all out by upcycling tyres, pallets, logs and a radiator to give the centres a festive makeover.

They’ve even recreated Santa’s workshop with an old spinning wheel, rocking horse and sled along with other cosy Christmas scenes.

Grimsby and Immingham Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) are open every day (except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day) from 8am to 6pm and 8am to 4pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Both sites are run by North East Lincolnshire Council’s waste management contractor Newlincs Development Ltd.

This year the site elves are adopting a Nutcracker theme with giant toy soldiers made of forklift tyres or wooden planks lining up to greet visitors.

There are snowmen, toy trains, Christmas trees and even a reindeer-drawn cart – all made using things people take to the tips.

Charity collections

Last Christmas staff collected more than £10,500 in donations from generous visitors to give to local charities and good causes.

This year they are hoping to beat that total and have raised more than £2,850 since 1 December.

Sharon Hunt, operations director at Newlincs Development Ltd, said:

“Nobody loves Christmas more than our staff. They really know how to put on a show.
“We’re very fortunate to have such generous people visiting the CRCs in Grimsby and Immingham, not just at Christmas but through the year.
“Since July, we’ve supplied 17 defibrillators to local groups in North East Lincolnshire with money raised by our charity bric-a-brac and bike sales, as well as supporting our usual local charities.
“I’d like to thank all the groups who contacted us about putting this life-saving equipment on their premises.
“We’re also donating emergency bleed kits to 13 locations around the borough in support of the Control the Bleed campaign.
“It’s amazing to think we can do all this with items people are throwing away.”

Cllr Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for Environment and Transport at the Council, added:

“What a brilliant effort by the staff at Grimsby and Immingham CRC. They do a fantastic job spreading Christmas cheer and giving people something to smile about.
“Both Grimsby and Immingham recycling centres are open daily.
“Please use them if you have excess waste and recycling to get rid of during the run up to Christmas.”
