A new law enforcement team has been introduced to North East Lincolnshire to help the borough tackle a range of issues.

The new team, known as WISE, will be carrying out enforcement work concerning litter, smoke free and parking. They will also enforce certain Public Space Protection Orders, known as a PSPOs.

Councils and Local Authorities were granted powers to introduce these PSPOs back in 2014 to help deal with problems harming the local community.

They can be allocated to specific areas concerning certain activities which, if broken, can result in a fine or prosecution.

Across the borough, there are numerous orders in place relating to dog control, parks and open spaces and the resort, covering a wide range of anti-social behaviour. Whilst patrolling North East Lincolnshire, the team will also investigate reports of breaches made by the general public as well as members of the Council.

Enforcement was originally dealt with by Local Authority Support, but changed over to the WISE team on December 1, 2023 who will operate across the area seven days a week.

Councillor Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for Safer and Stronger Communities, was thrilled to welcome the new team to the area.

He said: “It’s great that we can carry on with this necessary enforcement work. It’s paramount for keeping the people of North East Lincolnshire safe and we’re thrilled to welcome the WISE team to the area.

“Our Council plan advocates a zero-tolerance policy and we constantly review how we deliver our enforcement to make sure we can effectively tackle any issues.

“Going forward, we will monitor this new partnership and remain focused on what we can achieve with the new team in place.”
