Calls to plan your journey to Cleethorpes over Easter as work to the A180 bridge at Grimsby continues

General

Visitors are being urged to plan their Easter journey to the coast as essential work carries on to repair key bridges into Grimsby and Cleethorpes and protect them for the future.

There are three bridges from the A180 at Great Coates roundabout to Cleethorpe Road, the main access from the west to the coast: Gilbey Road, Alexandra Dock Bridge and Cleethorpe Road flyover.

The work on the Eastbound carriageway of Gilbey Road flyover started in early March, and will still be on site over the Easter holidays, meaning traffic will continue to travel in contraflow over the bridge at a reduced speed (30mph) for safety. This is likely to cause congestion on the way into Grimsby over the holiday period.

Anyone travelling to Cleethorpes from out of the area over the easter holidays is being advised to use alternative routes rather than the A180 through Grimsby.

Unfortunately, the works to the bridges involve repairs and re-waterproofing all the spans followed by works to kerbs, drainage and expansion joints before being resurfaced, so the traffic management cannot be lifted easily.

If anyone has any queries about the works, please contact [email protected].
