Young People’s Support Service (YPSS) supports young people mainly across academic years 11, 12 and 13, and can offer guidance up to age 25 if a young person has additional needs and/or is care experienced.

Lincs2

Lincs2 is a comprehensive one-stop online prospectus that provides details of the qualifications, courses, training providers and placement opportunities in North East Lincolnshire. It is for all learners who want to study or train in North East Lincolnshire either full-time or part-time.

During year 11 students will be supported by their schools/YPSS to apply for post-16 provision directly through the Lincs2 platform.

Year 10 Year 11 School leavers Adults (19+)

During Year 10

YPSS organise a large event every year for year 10 students called the Skills Fair. This is usually at the beginning of July at Grimsby Auditorium and most of the area’s secondary schools/academies come along.  The event is the region’s largest education, training and careers event and boasts an array of exhibitors including colleges, sixth forms, universities, employers and training providers both locally and nationally.

During Year 11

Schools/academies are responsible for arranging independent and impartial careers guidance for their students, however YPSS will see some students in year 11 depending on individual circumstances – for example, students with an Education Health Care Plan, students who are looked after by the local authority and/or students with a social worker, or young people who are not educated at a school.

If you have not met your Careers Adviser in school (by the end of the Easter break) or are worried about your next steps, please contact YPSS.  We can chat to you in a variety of ways, including face-to-face chats, home visits, telephone calls or through Microsoft teams.

Careers Advisers can offer:

  • Specialist one-to-one careers interventions to discuss post-16 options and routes into specific career paths or vocational areas.
  • Support with applying for post-16 provision, for example, college or apprenticeships.
  • Help with looking through the Lincs2 website to see what provision is available.
  • Help with arranging visits to local colleges/providers and contacting these on your behalf should you have any questions/queries.
  • Help with choosing alternatives should things not go according to plan (e.g. GCSE results).
  • Support with enrolment at college if required.

Young people over school leaving age

Making important decisions about the future can be difficult. If plans have not worked out it can be hard to think about what other options might be available or where to find support.  This is where YPSS’ NEET Practitioners can help.

NEET Practitioners can offer:

  • One-to-one support (over a period of time) to help overcome any problems that are preventing accessing work, learning or training.
  • Information, advice and guidance on college courses, training, job opportunities and how to access these.
  • Support with how to apply for jobs (application forms, preparing a CV, covering letters, interview skills/techniques).
  • Support with attending interviews with post 16 providers if required.

Post-19

As you make the transition into adulthood, there are alternative support options available from the council as well as lots of other providers across North East Lincolnshire.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Students aged 18+ with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) can take advantage of supported internships as a step into paid employment.
