Building new schools
There is currently a number of new school projects happening in Grimsby, Scartho and Waltham.
Social, Emotional, Mental Health (SEMH) Specialist Free School
The Government approved the proposal for a new specialist school in Grimsby, and allocated funding from its Special Free School Revenue Fund.
The school will have 150 pupil places for students aged from 8 to 19 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) for their social, emotional and mental health needs.
The Department for Education (DfE) has been working with the Council to find land suitable for this school. They have also received applications from organisations interested in running the new school.
The DfE is aiming to start work in the summer of 2025 with the hope the school will be open for September 2027.
Primary schools
Two new primary schools are being built in Scartho and Waltham. Lincolnshire Gateway Trust was announced by the DfE as the Multi-Academy Trust chosen to run both primary schools. The schools will have 210 pupil places for students aged 4 to 11. This includes places for 12 children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to enable access to the mainstream curriculum but with specialist support in one place.
Both schools will be built using the funding from the Section 106 housing developers’ contributions and the Council’s Government allocation of Basic Need.
Scartho Primary school
Scartho Gateway Academy was approved by the Planning Committee to be built on education land off Matthew Telford Park in Scartho.
Waltham Primary school
Waltham Gateway Academy was approved by the Planning Committee to be build on education land known as Sunningdale in Waltham
Building work for these schools has now started.
