Data protection

The Data Protection Act regulates how your personal information is used by organisations such as North East Lincolnshire Council.

In the documents section you will find:

  • Our Privacy Notice (PDF) explaining how information is collected and processed by the Council;
  • Our policies and guidance which supports the Council in achieving compliance with the Data Protection Act and effective information governance; and
  • The Humber Information Sharing Charter (PDF) which supports and facilitates the effective and lawful sharing of information.

The Act also provides individuals with a number of rights, including a right to access the personal records we hold about them.

Accessing information

You can apply to see what information the Council holds about you by making a subject access request using the Subject Access Request Form (Word document).

To support your application you will need to provide two forms of evidence confirming your identity (photo driving licence or passport) and address (utility bill or  bank / building society letter), and pay a fee of £10. Cheques and Postal Orders should be made payable to North East Lincolnshire Council, please write your name and address on the back of the payment in BLOCK CAPITALS. We recommend that you do not send cash through the post. We have no provision for credit card payments at this time.

Under the Data Protection Act, we may disclose personal information to third parties on request, for crime and taxation purposes (a section 29 exemption), or in connection with legal proceedings (a section 35 exemption). Please note that we are not obliged to comply with such requests, but will consider each application in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act. To request the disclosure of personal information under one of these exemptions, you will need to submit a Section 29 and 35 Request Form (Word document).
