North East Lincolnshire Council is set to carry out important road improvement and maintenance works along the A18 Barton Street between Riby and Ludborough this September.

The work will start on Monday 7 September 2026 and is expected to finish by Friday 2 October 2026.

The project includes major resurfacing work between Barnoldby le Beck roundabout and Ashby Hill roundabout, as well as routine maintenance along other sections of the road.

These improvements are needed to help keep the road safe, improve driving conditions, and reduce the need for more extensive repairs in the future.

The routine maintenance work will include:

  • Small road surface repairs
  • Drainage repairs and cleaning
  • Vegetation cutting
  • Road sign cleaning

During the main resurfacing phase, the old road surface will be removed and replaced, followed by new road markings.

The council understands that roadworks can cause inconvenience and delays. However, these works are essential to ensure Barton Street remains safe and reliable for residents, businesses and visitors.

To protect both road users and workers, some road closures and lane restrictions will be needed while the work takes place.

Advance warning signs and clearly signed diversion routes will be in place throughout the project.

The works will be completed in four phases:

Phase 1: Riby to A46 Laceby Crossroads Roundabout

7 to 8 September

Routine maintenance work will be carried out under lane closures between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

Phase 2: A46 Laceby Crossroads Roundabout to Barnoldby le Beck Roundabout

9 to 10 September

Routine maintenance work will be carried out under a daytime road closure between 7.30am and 6pm.

Access will remain available to:

  • Laceby Manor
  • The Willows
  • Oaklands Garden Centre
  • Best Western Oaklands Hall Hotel

These locations will be accessible from the A46 Laceby Crossroads Roundabout.

Access between Beelsby and Barnoldby le Beck Roundabout will also be maintained.

Phase 3: Ashby Hill Roundabout to Ludborough

11 and 14 September

Routine maintenance work will take place under a daytime road closure between 7.30am and 6pm.

Access to Willow Lakes and Landmark Café will be maintained via Ashby Hill Roundabout.

The B1203 route between Brigsley and East Ravendale will remain open across Ashby Hill Roundabout.

Phase 4: Barnoldby le Beck Roundabout to Ashby Hill Roundabout

15 September to 2 October

This is the main resurfacing phase and will take around three weeks to complete.

Works will take place between Old Farm Road, Hatcliffe and Ashby Hill Roundabout.

A full road closure will be required Monday to Friday between 7.30am and 6pm. A signed diversion route will be in place between the A46 and A16.

Access between Barnoldby le Beck Roundabout and Old Farm Road will be maintained except during the following periods:

  • 15 to 18 September
  • 24 to 29 September

Access between Brigsley and East Ravendale through Ashby Hill Roundabout will also remain available.

North East Lincolnshire Council and contractor Specialist Surfacing Ltd apologise for any inconvenience and thank residents and road users for their patience and understanding while these essential improvements are completed.
