From bike leathers worn by motorbiking sensation Guy Martin to Olympic medals won by the likes of Hollie Arnold and Zac Shaw, Paralympic medals won by Marc Woods. Kit worn by Hollie Arnold at Paralympics, Kit from Zac at Commonwealth games at some of the best pieces of history will all be under one roof.
The Hometown Heroes: A Celebration of Sport exhibition will be held in the Muriel Baker Gallery at Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre from Saturday 20 July and runs until 31December 2024.
Hometown Heroes celebrates sporting achievements in our area. From Paralympic athletes to grassroots community sports clubs, the displays will champion the physical, mental, and social benefits of taking part in sport and staying active.
Alongside stories of personal triumph, the exhibition also celebrates community clubs and organisations who help make sport accessible for all.
Speaking about the collection, Collections Officer Louise Bowen said: “We are so excited about the Heritage Heroes exhibition. Taking part in sport and keeping active bring so many benefits.
“We cannot wait to share the stories from our sporting community. Make sure you don’t miss what is sure to be a once in a lifetime experience.”
On the opening day, there will also be a variety of free and fun activities between 11am and 2pm outside the centre including football darts, balance bike race tracks and performances from Be Great Fitness and Twist and Flip Gymnastics.
