Bins, waste and recycling

16 new bins have been installed along Cleethorpes Central Promenade ahead of what is sure to be another busy Summer period.

On top of the 125 bins already in the centre of Cleethorpes, Waste Services have added fifteen additional 240 litre bins and one 1100 litre bin to help reduce the amount of litter in the resort in the coming months.

Last year, the Council added additional bins along the sections of the seafront to ensure there was somewhere for people to dispose of their rubbish, now they’re going the extra mile to cover the whole of the promenade.

In total, there are 16 extra bins that have been added to help meet the demand of residents and visitors looking for somewhere to put their empty fish and chip packet or the ice cream they accidentally dropped on the floor.

This initiative was originally due to be introduced in the coming months; however, due to the recent heatwave over the most recent bank holiday the Council decided to bring the bins earlier. The situation will continue to be monitored with the option to introduce more bins should it be deemed necessary.

Speaking about the introduction of the bins, Council Leader Oliver Freeston, said: “Recently, we’ve had a very busy promenade and with that comes waste.

“We thank everybody who put their waste in a bin or took it home with them, but not everybody does.

“To ensure we reduce the amount of litter, we have added these six extra bins over the Summer season. We ask that people use them appropriately and if one is full, the next one is only a matter of steps away.”

Councillor Bob Callison, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Energy Security, added: “It’s essential that we all look after Cleethorpes and the surrounding environment.

“It has its own Site of Special Scientific Interest and should therefore be respected. I echo what the Leader has said and ask that people use a bin or take their waste home with them, littering is never the correct thing to do.”
