People across North East Lincolnshire are booking their commutes through Phone n Ride, connecting them to their workplace.

Phone n Ride is an on-demand bus service with no fixed route or timetable. Its flexibility is paramount to service users living in the borough’s more rural areas, who would otherwise not be able to reach their employment without investing in a car.

James Barret has been using Phone n Ride since 2013. As a volunteer at Grimsby’s British Heart Foundation furniture shop, his role supports vulnerable members of the community and helps the national charity to fulfil its aims of conducting life-saving research.

“Phone n Ride is very important to me,” said James. “Without the service, I would not be able to get to different workplaces. I live in a rural area, and I am 30 minutes from a bus route, so without this, I also wouldn’t be able to volunteer or apply for other jobs. It’s an excellent service.”

Phone n Ride is also popular with travellers with additional mobility or sensory needs, providing independence to passengers who would otherwise struggle to connect with the district’s towns.

Lesley Jamieson, transport officer at EQUANS, said: “The beauty of the Phone n Ride service is that it can provide journeys that would otherwise require individuals to own a car. Phone n Ride can collect people from their homes and take them to where they need to be. We receive great feedback about the flexibility we can offer and our drivers are well-known for supporting passengers to have a relaxing journey.”
