Elections and voting

Our Electoral Services team work all year round to ensure that our residents can vote in different elections.

You will find all the information you need to be able to vote here.

Why should I vote?

Taking part in elections is one of the most important ways for people in the UK to influence how their area, as well as the country as a whole, is governed. Voting gives everyone a direct say in the decisions that shape everyday life, including areas such as healthcare, education, housing, employment, and the environment.

Local elections have a particularly significant impact on your community. The individuals elected in these votes are responsible for making decisions about public services in your area. This includes services such as road maintenance, infrastructure projects, leisure facilities, waste management, and many others that affect daily living. By casting your vote, you help to strengthen democracy, hold decision-makers accountable, and take an active role in shaping the future of both your local community and the wider country. It is important to remember that even a small number of votes can determine the outcome of an election – history has shown that elections can be decided by just a handful of votes. Your vote truly could make the difference.
