North East Lincolnshire Council is proud to announce it is White Ribbon accredited.

White Ribbon is the leading charity in England and Wales engaging men and boys to prevent violence against women and girls.

In the past year, figures reveal how 21 per cent of all crime in North East Lincolnshire is related to VAWG.

Recently, North East Lincolnshire Community Safety Partnership (CSP) alongside North East Lincolnshire Council has organised events such as the hugely successful Reclaim the Streets walk where people of all ages and genders walked together in Cleethorpes to raise awareness of Violence Against Women and Girls.

As part of the 16 Days of Action and White Ribbon Day, the CSP are hosting a candlelit reflection on the steps of Grimsby Town Hall at 4.30pm on Tuesday 25th November. Everyone is welcome to remember those women that have sadly lost their lives and to pledge to work towards ending VAWG.

The CSP has also been touring local colleges and schools – educating young people across North East Lincolnshire on VAWG and how they can help.

As part of the hard work towards making a difference, NELC has recently become a White Ribbon accredited workplace.

As a result, the council is working on a three-year plan as part of the White Ribbon accreditation process.  This involves the monitoring of policies and procedures to ensure VAWG is considered at every opportunity and the introduction of confidential mentors so staff have someone to talk to if they are experiencing abuse.

The plan also includes encouraging employees to become Champions and Ambassadors – where they promise to fight VAWG, calling out bad behaviour and contributing to positive change.

Having now become White Ribbon accredited, North East Lincolnshire Council would like to encourage other local businesses to become accredited themselves.

White Ribbon accreditation provides a safe and supportive working environment for women and a pledge to fight for them.

Cllr Ron Shepherd, Portfolio Holder for Safer and Stronger Communities said: “Being White Ribbon accredited means we are now committed to calling out bad behaviour and tackling VAWG at the source.

“I would like to thank members of other parties such as Cllr Clough for supporting this worthwhile cause by helping to plan events such as the vigil on the 25th.”

North East Lincolnshire Council will continue making the positive steps towards reducing VAWG locally, if your company would like to join us or is already accredited, please email [email protected] with the subject line White Ribbon.
