Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre has been awarded £75,000 of grant funding in an effort to support the venue through the COVID-19 pandemic, as part of the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund (CRF).
The centre is one of many cultural and creative organisations across the country receiving urgently needed support. The funding has been announced as part of the second round of the CRF grants programme being administered by Arts Council England.
The CRF, launched by the Government in July, is designed to help cultural organisations, performing arts, events, festivals and venues weather the impact of coronavirus.
The grant for the Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre will provide the foundations to build a stronger and more resilient centre following the challenges that COVID-19 has presented.
The £75,000 lifeline grant from the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund will help the centre and its staff to continue operating as a COVID-Secure venue and enhancing the visitor experience through digital technology.
Councillor Callum Procter, portfolio holder for tourism, heritage and culture, said: “This funding award is a very welcomed lifeline for the centre. Like so many other museums, 2020 has been a difficult year for the Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre.
“The museum prides itself on being open to the public to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of 1950s Great Grimsby back in its heyday. This money is so valuable to giving the museum a chance to look towards the following months, and next year, with renewed optimism and a digital focus experience.”
The £75,000 funding will build upon Arts Council England’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Package of more than £17,000 which was awarded to the museum earlier this year, as well as £10,000 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Digital Confidence Fund.
The three projects will ensure more people can access and enjoy stories about Grimsby heritage, even with the restrictions COVID-19 brings.
