New start date for roundabout construction at the A18/Waltham Road junction

General

Works to build a new roundabout at the A18/Waltham Road junction will now start in September.

As discussions with the landowner’s legal teams continue and will take a few more weeks to complete, works originally set to start on Monday 10 May have been pushed back. This matter cannot be influenced by the council and ENGIE – both organisations and landowners are subject to the legal process in place.

Postponing the works until September allows time for the land purchase to complete and also removes the need to close the A18 over the summer when traffic levels are high.

Avoiding this time also reduces the amount of summer traffic diverted into Grimsby and on the A16 as a result of an A18 closure, ensuring the road network during the summer holidays remains free flowing and safe.

The exact date for the closure in September will be confirmed closer to the time.

As previously reported, to allow these works to be carried out safely, a road closure will be in place from the A18/A46 roundabout to the Ashby Hill roundabout on the A18. A closure will also be in place restricting access from Barnoldby le Beck to the A18. The works are planned to take four months to complete.

The A18 road safety improvements are being managed and overseen by the council’s regeneration partner, ENGIE, with contractor, CR Reynolds, continuing to carry out the improvements.

North East Lincolnshire Council, ENGIE and CR Reynolds will continue to work closely to minimise disruption to residents and businesses but would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
