Childcare funding for ‘low or no income families’

This page provides information on childcare offers for low or no income families. Please head to childcare offers for working families if this doesn’t apply.

Available for working families who are eligible for Universal Credit

Universal Credit for Childcare

You may be able to claim back up to 85% of your childcare costs if you’re eligible for Universal Credit and your children are under 17, but you (and your partner if you live with them) will usually need to have or be starting a job.

2 years old

You can get funded early learning if:

  • you’re on a low income
  • earn no income
  • receive certain benefits
  • your child has specialist needs and is in receipt of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • a child you provide care for is looked after by the Local Authority

Check your eligibility on Childcare Choices.

This funding is managed by North East Lincolnshire Council, and before you can apply online you must login or register on MyNelincs.

3 & 4 years old

Every 3 to 4 year old can have 570 hours of free early education or childcare until they start school. These hours are usually taken as 15 hours a week for 38 weeks of the year, but you can choose to take fewer hours over more weeks.

You do not have to apply online for funding at this age, you should speak to your chosen childcare provider to see if they can offer a place.
