Children’s disability service

The Children’s Disability Service (CDS), are part of the wider Children Social Care offer.

The CDS work with families who require support and also with children who require help and protection.

The Childrens Disability Service provides support and safeguarding for children and young people where:

• The disability or complex health need has a substantial and long-term effect on their ability to carry out day-to-day activities; and
• There are significant difficulties in meeting needs within their family, broader support networks or through local universal provision.

A parent/carer or multi agency partner can request an assessment for any child/young person, who meets the criteria for Children with Disabilities and lives in North East Lincolnshire via NELC Children’s Integrated Front Door, 01472 326292 option 2.

Parents/ carers are also able to request an assessment of their own needs via this option. Contacts received in the Integrated Front Door will also provide advice and guidance around the Local Offer available and consider Early Help/ Family Help Services, prior to considering allocation to CDS for assessment.

Where allocation in agreed to CDS, an assessment will be completed and a plan will be agreed with the child and family, this may include direct provision of services of a direct payment/ personal budget or a short break for example. Where access to services that need to be paid for by North East Lincolnshire Council is required, the disability resource allocation meeting will make a decision about resources.

The CDS will review the support plan regularly with the emphasis being on promoting inclusion, meeting identified outcomes and support the family as a whole.
