North East Lincolnshire Council’s street cleansing team are currently working through their busiest weekend of the year.
The small team have been clearing up after thousands of visitors that have descended on Cleethorpes this weekend.
Street cleaning workers are covering the resort from 6am to 11pm and are rolling out extra bins and vehicles in response to the numbers of people expected.
Cleethorpes has more than 320 litter bins, including many for recycling paper and plastic bottles.
For Armed Forces Weekend, the street cleansing team have taken these additional measures:
- Stationing a waste vehicle on Alexandra Road to cope with extra demand
- A large bin vehicle parked along the Central Promenade
- Two smaller vehicles working around the resort at all times
- The beach will be raked daily from 6am
- Increasing how often they empty the bins along the seafront from North Promenade to the Fitties with all available staff in place at 6am to clear away any rubbish from the previous day
- Litter picking on foot for the duration of the event.
No amount of bins can cope with the numbers expected, so if you are visiting the resort and a bin is full, please find another or take your rubbish home with you.
Usually, they would drive along the promenade to empty the litter bins, but this isn’t possible when there are large crowds of people.
Instead, they will wheel bins to the stationary bin wagon in Central Promenade, near the Ross Castle, and have the smaller roving wagons on the North Promenade and between the Leisure Centre and the Fitties.
Any traders operating in the resort must have their own arrangements in place for disposing of their business waste. They must not use street litter bins.
