Since its launch, the Winsby Community Lottery has raised more than £25,000for the local community through their efforts to gain support and donations.

As an extra bonus, to celebrate the third anniversary of the lottery, four lucky organisations have received a bonus from money collected as part of the general fund.

With 10p from every ticket bought put into a central pot, it was decided as part of the operating rules to award this in a random draw on the anniversary of the lottery to one of the causes signed up to the site.

This year, it was decided to award £1,500 to the first organisation drawn randomly, and £500 each to the next three. The lucky recipients are:

1 x £1500 prize: Harbour Place

3 x £500 prizes: Friendship at Home, 32nd Rainbow Grimsby Guides and 3rd Cleethorpes Scout group.

Lyse Stephenson, CEO of Friendship at Home said: “This is absolutely amazing news. We have just started the process of looking for contributions towards our annual party so our older people have something to look forward to.

“This money will be extremely useful and has come at the perfect time.” She added: “Our members will be so pleased too. The cost of living has made life that little bit harder for them and for us as a charity.

“This will make a massive difference to all of us at Friendship at Home.”

Winners of the top prize of £1500 was Harbour Place. Administration Officer Kerry Burkitt was ecstatic about the news. “It’s going to make a huge difference in a number of different areas. It means we can buy clothing for those who need help as well as get a new, much needed dishwasher.”

She added: “Donations have dropped off so we are so happy to have this. You have no idea how much this will mean to the people who come to Harbour Place. It means we can buy basics that often go forgotten like sugar and tea bags for those who just want a hot drink.”

Donna Blakey, part of the32nd Grimsby Rainbow Guides who won £500, said: “Charities like Girlguiding play a huge role in our society. Girls in guiding learn things they often can’t do anywhere else.

“This money will go towards opportunities and activities for girls that can help build confidence and inspire creativity, as well as develop important skills, such as leadership and communication. Their experiences with Girlguiding help to make them who they are and be active and thoughtful members of their communities for life.”

Lee Woolsey, Chair of Trustees at 3rd Cleethorpes Scout Group, said: “We’re over the moon to hear that we have won some money from Winsby Lottery. As a small charity which receives no regular funding, donations like these are a great help to us and are very much appreciated.

“We’ll be having discussions between our volunteers over the next few weeks to work out how best we can use these funds to support our young people to have new adventures and gain even more skills for life.”

Unlike other lotteries, a huge 60p from every £1 ticket goes to local charities and good causes signed up to the site. You can choose which cause to support when you sign up.
