A planning application has been submitted for major upgrades to the heating system at Grimsby Leisure Centre, aimed at reducing energy costs and cutting carbon emissions at one of North East Lincolnshire’s key community facilities.
The application proposes the installation of eight air source heat pumps within a fenced compound at the Leisure Centre pool, replacing ageing gas boilers as part of a wider modernisation of the site’s heating system. The improvements are expected to significantly enhance energy efficiency while delivering estimated annual savings of around £25,000 on running costs.
If approved, the project would represent a major investment in greener infrastructure, helping to future‑proof the facility against rising energy prices and reduce its environmental impact.
The project has secured partial funding through the Government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme Phase 3c, delivered by Salix on behalf of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, with funding awarded to North East Lincolnshire Council in April 2024.
The application will now be considered by the local planning authority, with members of the public invited to view the proposals and provide feedback as part of the consultation process. The planning reference number for Grimsby Leisure centre is DM/0465/25/FUL
