North East Lincolnshire Council

Pay your council tax

To pay you will need your account reference number, which can be found above the barcode on your bill.

Pay by Direct Debit

Direct Debit is the easiest way to pay your council tax. You can set up the payments to be made on the 1st, 8th, 15th or 22nd of the month. Payments made by Direct Debit are also protected by the Direct Debit guarantee.

If you do not already pay by Direct Debit this can be set up over the telephone. If you are the bank account holder and the bill you want to pay is in your name, give us a call on 0300 3030164 selecting option 5. To set up a Direct Debit by post you can print and return the Set up Direct Debit form (Word document).

Pay online

You can make a payment online, using a debit or credit card by completing our Council tax payment form.

You will need your account reference and your card details to hand. The balance shown will be the total balance on your account and not always the amount that is due on this instalment. You can manually enter your instalment amount to pay what is currently due.

To avoid paying online each month you can set up a Direct Debit.

Pay by telephone

You can pay over the telephone by debit or credit card. Have your account reference number and card details to hand and call 0300 3030164 (option 1) any time of the day.

Pay at the post office or a pay point

Take your bill to a post office or a shop that accepts pay point payments and they will take the payment. A full list of these can be found at allpay. You must take your bill with you for payment to be accepted. You should keep your receipt as proof of payment.

When is payment due?

There are four payment dates possible depending on your payment method.

  • Monthly payments – 1st or 15th of the month
  • Direct debit – 1st, 8th, 15th or 22nd of the month

New payments are usually set up for the 1st of the month. To change this please contact the council tax team.

Amounts due should be paid on or before the instalment dates shown on your bill. Notices will be issued if payment is not received by the due date. Failure to pay your bill may result in the option to pay by instalments being withdrawn.
