Domestic abuse

Domestic abuse is any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality.

It is not just physical abuse, it can also be:

Psychological
Sexual
Financial
Emotional

If you feel like your partner or family member is doing any of the above, remember you are not alone. There are local support services that will be able to help, listen and/or find you shelter.

Women’s Aid North East Lincolnshire –You can and they will offer you support and advice locally. Women’s Aid NEL also have a safe house called The Refuge. The address is confidential, and you and your children can stay without your details being shared.

Humberside Police – Have a dedicated team of experts who deal with domestic abuse. These officers know how difficult reporting it can be and they will ensure that you are safe when you report it and throughout any police or court action that may follow:

Victim Support – The charity offers support and guidance over domestic abuse, and any other support you may need as a victim of crime. The charity is for both men and women and you can go into their office and speak to them privately and confidently.

National helplines – 

Women’s Aid – is a charity that helps people across the country who are dealing with domestic abuse. They have a 24 hour helpline and will offer you help, specialist support and act in the quickest and most appropriate way. www.womensaid.org.uk; 0808 2000 247.

Men’s Advice Line – confidential helpline for male victims of domestic violence and abuse, whether you are in a heterosexual or a same-sex relationship, Monday-Friday 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm. www.mensadviceline.org.uk ; 0808 801 0327.
