Council information and partnerships

Five organisations have been given a share of £3,263.36 thanks to a Council run lottery.

Winsby is a lottery that has helped numerous good causes across the borough throughout the last five years. Now, the scheme has come to an end, but has been able to help five more local charities and organisations before it closes.

Annually, a larger pot of money is ordinarily shared out to three separate organisations. However, with this being the final one, five groups were randomly selected to help with running costs or ongoing projects. This year, the organisations are:

  • £1500: 32nd Rainbow Guides
  • £500: Harbour Place
  • £500: Climb4
  • £500: Waltham Windmill Preservation Trust
  • £263.26: RSPB Grimsby Local Group

32nd Rainbow Guides

Winning the main prize, the Grimsby based group will be making their session even more fun for the young girls who attend. Helping them learn key skills and important lessons, these groups are essential in helping develop the next generation.

The children who attend the Guides love spending time making crafts, colouring and exploring outside. When asked, the girls aged 4-6 were thrilled to have won some funding and are looking forward to spending it on books, games and maybe a doughnut or two.

Millie, 4, Esmae, 5, Susie, 5, Hattie, 6, Maeve, 6, Mabel, 6 and Matilda all wished that more people would join the Rainbow Guides and said: “We encourage our friends to come along and join the fun.”

Harbour Place

They are a Grimsby charity supporting the homeless and vulnerable across North East Lincolnshire. Their services include a night shelter, practical support/facilities such as a shower or hot meal and can offer support plans to their members.

They support over 400 individuals every year and are hoping this money can continue to help more people in the area.

Climb 4

Their aim is to create an inclusive environment for everybody. Providing accessible support and training for children, young people, families and individuals, many of whom are or at risk of or have struggled with poor mental or physical health, are on low income, or unemployed or struggling to attend school.

The services they provide enable participants to form positive relationships in a safe and friendly environment and be part of decision-making processes. This approach raises aspirations and improves confidence.

Waltham Windmill Preservation Trust

This charity helps to raise funds for the upkeep of the historic Waltham Windmill. A landmark of the town since 1666, the windmill is synonymous with Waltham and has been the subject of many renovations over the years.

In December 1966 Waltham Windmill Preservation Society was formed and began the task of restoring the mill. Over the years, the group has helped to get the cap (the top of the mill) repaired, incorporating a further amount of work to ensure the structure for future generations.

RSPB Grimsby Local Group

The RSPB Grimsby Local Group, (which is supported by the Winsby Lottery), is part of the RSPB, a conservation charity founded nearly 135 years ago.  The Grimsby Group was founded nearly 40 years ago, and aims to bring together people with an interest in learning about birds and other wildlife, while raising money for the RSPB to support conservation projects locally, nationally and internationally.

There are also important social aspects of the group through regular meetings with guest speakers, visits to places of birding interest and a New Year’s Lunch. In addition, the health benefits of interaction with nature are becoming increasingly well recognised.
