Housing Related Support service

The Housing Related Support (HRS) service is delivered in partnership with local housing support services to teach you the skills to live independently.

HRS is a short-term support service which aims to give you the skills to manage your home well. Our aim is that at the end of your support, you will no longer need further assistance from other homelessness services.

  • Gaining confidence

HRS is tailored to support you and your needs; every case is different. We can support anyone in the borough over the age of 16 who is willing to learn new skills and work with us to achieve your goals. We can provide HRS in your current home or whilst in supported accommodation.

Step-by-step guide

Find a step-by-step guide that goes through the Homeless Prevention Service request, to find out more about accessing housing-related support.

  • Step 1

    Homeless Prevention Service Request form completed by either yourself or someone helping you.

  • Step 2

    HPS will work with you to assess to see what help you need. If it’s required they will write a personal housing plan.

  • Step 3

    If it’s found you do need some help from HRS, the team will give you a ring to have a chat to talk about how we can help you, what you need, and any background information such as where you have lived before and if you’ve had any other support from any other services.

  • Step 4

    Once the team have all your details and an idea of what you may need, they will send this to our partners. They have 3 working days to let us know if they think they would be a good match to help you.                 

  • Step 5

    The HRS team take a look at all the partner agencies who want to help you and decide who they think would be best suited. If there is more than one, they’ll get in touch and ask you if you have any preference of who you’d like to go with.

  • Step 6

    Once you’ve been matched with a partner, they will get in touch with you. If, for any reason, you or the partner don’t feel like it is the right match, the HRS team can be informed and they’ll go back to the other agencies who thought they could help.

  • Step 7

    Once you’re both happy, you’ll start working together to make a support plan, which will be reviewed every 6 months. If at any point you’re not happy with the support you’re receiving you can always get the partners to get in touch with the HRS team and we’ll look into the other partners.

  • Next steps

    If your partner feels like you need it, they can ask HRS to extend your support plan up to a maximum of 2 years. Once your support plan ends you should be able to manage your tenancy well and live a happy, healthy life. We will ask you if you’d be willing to share any feedback about your time working with the HRS partners to help us improve our offer.

Additional steps

Sometimes the process may not be as straight forward, and there will be other outcomes:

  • In some instances, if you are looking for both accommodation and support, the HRS and homeless prevention teams will both work with you at the same time.
  • If you are not able to receive HRS, we may send you a list of local services.
  • If you can manage your home well but don’t currently have anywhere to live you won’t need HRS but the homeless prevention service will help you find somewhere new to live.
