Family Group Conferencing


A family group conference is a process led by family members to plan and make decisions for a child when concerns have been raised. Children and young people are at the centre of the family group conference and their family plan. It gives opportunity for family members to get together and try and find solutions themselves.

An independent person who hasn’t worked with the family or child before, and will help you organise the meeting.

Prepare for the conference

An FGC Practitioner will help you decide who to invite and will arrange the time and place. It’s important the child attends the meeting.

Private family time

Families are given time without any professionals to talk privately during the conference. You can discuss the best way forward for your child.

Family Group Conference referral

Family Group Conference is a voluntary process and families are not forced. Only professionals such as social workers can make a referral.
